2018 Newbie Chat!

DH & I have been letting the babies play on us twice a day to help socialize them.

We had a huge storm blow through the last few days with high winds(70mph), and lots of rain. My fifteen week olds have been hiding it out in the coop.

My Little’s on the other hand couldn’t care less about the bad weather.

All of their combs are starting to sport a pinkish hue. They look more and more like adults daily.

Hi Guys!

Chicken newbie here, and we are picking up our chicks from the hatchery tomorrow. We ordered 2 Barnvelders, 2 silver laced Wyandottes, 2 speckles Sussex, and one Golden Buff (Red Sex Link). So excited/nervous!

Hello and welcome!
If your sex link is anything like mine, expect her to be #1 in the pecking order and a hog with food and treats :drool lol.
She tries to come in the house
My silver laced Wyandottes are much more cautious and hang back.

Here's progress on the coop I am building for my mom! So far I like it better than my coop XD
Oh well, once mine slowly begins to rot away from the lack of proper roof overhang I can build an even better one :p

You beat me to it! I was going to post a picture. BBZZZZTT and her fiance came over yesterday while I was gone and surprised me by putting the roof and the coop floor on. I was sooo thrilled! It's supposed to be warmer later this week, so I'm hoping for some more progress on it. Those chicks are getting big! in case you don't remember or are new, BBZZZZTT is my daughter and she got 7 chicks when she ordered 5. All thrived but we are only allowed 4 in the city so I'm going to take 3 of them.

You're right, she's already pretty pushy! They're all in the brooder, hopefully they will calm down and GO TO SLEEP, LOL! They did not like the 2-hour drive home at all, especially when it was noisy, bumpy, and highway construction-y. :hmm

PNW - Ohhhh exciting!!

My girls are getting close too. They are 18 weeks now and its like overnight they grew combs! I cannot wait!

18 weeks? Oh jeez I’m sure yours will lay before mine! I swear mine know I’m checking, thinking I’m going to put a golf ball in the one they seem most interested in. My Ameraucana won’t lay for another 4-9 weeks guaranteed. But my BPR and my EE should hopefully get to laying before then. :fl

Newborn here, chicks will go into their warm area if they are cold right...? They know where it is but I moved them into the basement where the ambiant temp is in the 60s.

They are chilling outside of the heating pad tent I made.

Calm and quiet but I'm worried

Pic of Funny Girl, my solid favorite. She's super social and loves to be held. She also comes running when you called which is hilarious to watch. IMG_20180410_093533_224.jpg
