I'm so sorry to hear that ( Such a hard decision to make but the right one.

Yes I’m glad she’s not suffering anymore. I’ll miss seeing her in the brooder though.
I’m planning to get more chicks later in the summer...probably July or August.
I’ll order from a hatchery this time and finally get my Speckled Sussex, Australorp and Partridge Rocks.

I'm new here and new to chickens. I'm trying to jump right in but 53 pages is a LOT to catch up on.

I have 7 chicks in a brooder box. They range from approx. 11 days old and 5 days old. I have so much to learn.

One is littler and less active than the rest. I've had my eye on her all morning and am worried about it. I don't know if it's just first time mom anxiety or if she's just sleepy all the time because she so teeny tiny. Perhaps I should give her some sugar water to see if she'll perk up and then if she doesn't, I can really start worrying.

Cocci is very common in young chicks, so keep your eyes peeled for that as it can kill your whole group very quickly. What type of chicks do you have?

Yup, totally normal poops. I think she may just be weak. She has little bursts of energy and will eat/drink and then it's back to super sleepy.

2 Cuckoo Marans named Mitchie and Dean- born April 19th
2 Ameraucanas named Vonita and Rosie- borns April 19th

Yup, totally normal poops. I think she may just be weak. She has little bursts of energy and will eat/drink and then it's back to super sleepy.

It’s pretty normal for chicks to nap all the time out of nowhere for their first couple weeks. If she’s eating and drinking normal and her poops look healthy I wouldn’t worry. I had an extremely weak chick (she’s a Buff Orp too) that wasn’t able to drink or eat well, I bought a electrolyte solution called Nutri-Drench and gave her a drop on her beak. She was fine the next day. They're hardier than they look and it sounds like You’re doing great!

My girls have been establishing their pecking order a lot lately. I did a check up on everyone today again after yesterday’s incident, just to make sure I didn’t miss any injuries. One of my poor welsummers Gingko was pretty brutally attacked.

She’s missing a big patch of feathers on her saddle area and has an open wound there as well. I cleaned her up with clorahexadine spray, then some vetericyn. I gave her a drop of Nutri-Drench and put her in the broody breaker. My birds are going crazy, with any luck tomorrow will be an incident free day.

How old are your birds? Do they go through a crazy teenager phase? I'm asking so I can prepare myself for what's to come.

Gingko was attacked by her hatch mates. I think they were bullying her for roost space. I’ve been told that they get very hormonal as they approach laying age, this is the first “attack” I’ve seen. Up until this point it was just chasing and pecking.
