Is Wally your only cockerel/roo?Yay! So glad Kristoff found a loving home, and so soon at that! You guys are lucky that crowing is the only issue, Wally has been mating every pullet that will deal with him long enough. He seems to have it down though, no more feather pulling needed for him to mount! Once my girls decide to finally lay, there’s no doubt they’ll be fertilized.
Is Wally your only cockerel/roo?
Yes Wally is my one and only! I Was secretly hoping one of my Ameraucana turned out to be a cockerel so I could breed him with my Ameraucana for pure bred Ameraucana and with my brown layers to make EE and olive eggers. Since I live out in farm country those breeds are oddities, and more people want them because of it.
I would put out adds for your NN cockerels at your feed store and on your local Craigslist. People are always searching for free birds even if they’re cockerels!I’m so excited for you!
I’d love to get true Ameracaunas.
Is your hen also black like Wally?
I’ve been having the same thoughts about out here where I live lol.
I’m not sure exactly what people are really looking for out here though.
Maybe BCM?
I saw yesterday that My Pet Chicken has Blue Barred Marans.
Those sound really cool!
My husband really doesn’t want a LF roo though.
If Bubelah ends up being a cockerel I’m keeping him. I’ll have to rename him Bubba or something
We have a bantam Dark Brahma and now I also have Frodo my bantam Cochin.
I really like bantam Cochins a lot.
I think Cochin/Silkie crosses are pretty cute too.
I need to get some bantam pullets for Frodo.
Right now he only has Sam the Silkie.
I have to find home for my NN cockerels also. Maybe I should put a notice up at the feed store.
Omg that is hilarious!I would put out adds for your NN cockerels at your feed store and on your local Craigslist. People are always searching for free birds even if they’re cockerels!
So happy your keeping Bubelah even if she is a he! Her/His coloring is so unique, your definitely going to need a few ladies for your Frodo so Sam doesn’t get torn to shreds in the future. Frizzle Cochins are some of my favorite looking breeds, I hear their temperament is amazing as well!
As for Wally he has six Ameraucana pullets for pure breeding. One is black, four are blue, and one is splash. Their temperament is nothing like what I’ve heard though. Aside from sweet Wally the rest are highly vocal and flighty. They scream at me when I clean their coop/run, I’ll have to film it. They sound like they’re cursing me out![]()
If you get more silkies and one turns out to be a cockerel you could also breed showgirls which actually go for a pretty penny where I live! You have so many options for breeding more NN! If we both get good at breeding we can always trade hatching eggs! I want NN you want Ameraucana!Omg that is hilarious!
We have one Wyandotte that likes to “b*tch”.
She’ll walk around squawking and carrying on about everything.
In some ways I hope Bubelah is a roo because then I can breed NN
I am getting a little concerned because Bubelah is becoming more aggressive but doesn’t bite like the brown one.
But even if she’s not a roo I could still keep the “sidekick” since he’s not nearly as aggressive as the brown one.
That brown one runs up and immediately tries to bite my hand when I reach in the brooder.
Hmmm...maybe I should name him Sidekick

The only issue with that plan is the fact that Hector, my little Brahma, would probably get dethroned as alpha roo.
I don’t have the means to keep them all separated...other than the bantams.
Plus Sidekick isn’t a good example of a bow tie NN. But as long as he were bred to hens with good bow ties then I should get good chicks out of it.
BTW did you know if you breed Wally to your splash, your chicks will be blues?
You have perfect colors to produce more blacks, blues & splashes.
Ooh I wish I could get some!
