A family of coopers hawks have been hanging around in the trees surrounding my yard for over a week now! I saw one hopping around a tree, and I've been hearing their calls constantly.

I'm hoping they will move on as fall approaches. I haven't been letting the chickens free range at all with them around. (Which they are not happy with at all)

I am a little jealous of my mom's bantams. I'm a small person and I can't fit my hands around my full size chickens. I have to do the football tuck to hold on to them without them flapping around.

Here are pictures I just took. She is a she, right? What do you guys think? They might have had EE's in this hatch too. It was only these guys and buff orphingtons left when I got there.

How old is she? I think she looks like a she.
She looks like EE and Welsummer, but maybe that's just because I am used to seeing those two breeds. It would explain her yellow feet though.

EE (or other pea-combed blue layer) + Welsummer= olive egger?
Maybe that's why it wasn't classified as a 'mix'
Because even though EEs and olive eggers are technically mixes themselves, they are purposefully so, and sold by hatcheries that way, etc.

Not at all.
I’m no expert but I have spent a lot of time reading about breeds just for pleasure.
My neighbor had an EE and I now have two 7 week old pullets and they definitely have a different look about their head due to the pea comb even without beard or cheek muffs.
I was thrown of by llombardo’s bird because of the yellow legs.
I’ve never seen any AM or EE with yellow legs but I also don’t know the genetics of leg color other than white legs are a dominant gene.
I’m pretty sure she’s probably a mix...possibly GLW and AM/EE?

If I were @llombardo I would post a thread in the Gender/Breed forum and ask the experienced BYCers what they think.

I’m excited to see what color eggs she lays.

They are getting close to laying. All 4 were checking out the best boxes in detail today. Now I'm anxiously waiting to see this one. I do think she is pretty. I would like to know what breeds I have--I feel like a bad chicken owner since I dont.

How old?

I just did a little searching and have discovered EE can have different colors of legs depending on breeds used for the cross.
The leg color also has nothing to do with egg color.
Looking at these photos I’m positive she’s an EE.
Look at that beard!
Out of my 2 EE, only Taka has muffs.
Skye doesn’t.
BTW...EE can lay blue, green, pink or brown eggs.

She started out as a very dark chick. Where did all this white come from lol!

I’ve become very suspicious of Skye’s comb because it’s been pink for a couple of weeks now.
And Taka’s comb isn’t.
I love Skye’s colors right now. I know she’s going to change when her adult feathers come in.
