Here is my forest in the run...

I ended up emptying all mine, my girls don't like it, Lilah too scared to walk on it would fly out of the hutch when I let them out in the morn, and yesterday after having laid her egg, flew out of the nest box in a panic and clipped a post, - Pedro stopped putting herself to bed at night b'cos she was too scared to walk on it at night, so I've took it all out and used boring ole wood chips instead. Tis a shame because the run looked beautiful with the wonderful array of colours, but my girls happiness and welfare is paramount and they are well happy its gone. Shame for the ducks though b'cos they loved having it in there, they played in it loads, so I'm planning to make them their own little patch under a bush near their pools.

Well this doesn't surprise me, because as I'm learning, my chickens are not normal. They are way to confident and I don't know if that is a good or bad thing. They do not do things the way chickens do. What chickens love the night time? Seriously? Pitch black and mine are scratching around. Nothing new scares them. I may have created little monsters. I seem to do this with all my animals. Every one of them are very confident and independent. It makes me laugh because somehow they have all adopted my attitude. I need to put some fear in them, especially the chickens--they need to have some fear for their safety.

As for the ducks? As soon as they see the leaves they flap their wings and make the leaves fly--this seems to make them happy and it makes me laugh.

Maybe it will work when they are older? A couple things I did that they liked with the leaves--I put out a pile and they spread it and I also put some scratch under and on top of it to stimulate them.

That's too bad, mine were fine with them, scratching around, seeing if they were edible. Only thing I wasn't happy with is that it rained hard the next day and they all crushed down. I hope it doesn't take longer for the run to dry out with them in it. But at least they're not mud.

Nothing but rain here since I put the leaves down. I got more leaves coming. I'm adding mulch too

Hows it going with Red and the soft shell eggs? Is she better now?

She hasn’t laid anything since then.
She’s acting normal and eating so as far as I’m concerned she’s taking a winter break and/or molting.
I never see any feathers of hers lying around so I’m not so sure she’s molting.
She’s due for a molt soon as she is about 15 months old.
As long as she’s healthy I don’t care really.

Welcome fellow WI person! Can you post a picture of your" I don't know what 3 ares?" Lol! Maybe someone will know. Are they grown or chicks?
I have 5 bantams that are 11 weeks old, 3 Easter eggers, 1 mottled cochin, and 1 Polish crested. My cochin turned out to be a cockerel. I'm in the city so only allowed hens, but I'm going to keep him and see if the neighbors notice. I've heard that bantams sometimes crow quieter than big chickens. Got my fingers crossed.
