2018 Newbie Chat!

That looks so good.
My birds only got some baked potato but I am giving them the turkey breast bone and scraps in the days ahead.

I brought Frodo into the house for a few minutes today.
He’s gotten very used to being handled now and actually walks up to me when he wants me to pick him up. :love

I’ve always wanted one of my bantam Cochins to let me cuddle them; I just never thought it would be Frodo.

He thought the TV was strange and was a little disturbed by my dog, Charlie’s, toy lol.

I’m keeping him in a dog crate in the garage right now as I treat him with Corid. He’s still very thin and his comb and wattles are still pale and shrunken.

My Cochin Diamond lets me cuddle him. He's only 13 weeks so not mature yet, but I sure hope he continues his nice demeanor. I sure hope Frodo recovers well, I've always liked your stories about him cause he's a cochin too.

I have completely fallen in love with bantam Cochins.
I really want more and I’d love to breed them but right now Frodo has zero interest in that. He doesn’t even crow.
I may have to get another rooster but I will keep Frodo and try to make him better.
Maybe he’ll just be our pet.
Nothing wrong with that.
My husband even likes him. He reminds us of a little old man even though he’s only barely 8 months old.
Do you have a recent picture of Diamond?

Yep that’s easy to throw you off.
I think I had said cockerel too.
You learn so much the more you raise.
I have a few pullets that have been red for months but their combs never got as big as Oliver’s.
Some of my pullets aren’t anywhere near even pink.
Just a word of warning: Cochins are known for their broodiness.
I knew either Pippin or Cricket would go broody but I never expected it at 6-7 months old!
My neighbors OEG hen would go broody for months and she would just let her and never try to break her.
That hen would be in bad condition too.
I told her that even though she can only have 6 hens, when her girl goes broody she can put female day old chicks under her to raise.
Like sex links or auto sexing breeds.
And when the chicks are feathered out and old enough she can sell them.
So her broody gets to raise chicks and she can make a little money.
