This pic was taken a couple of weeks ago when we had a pretty good cold front come through. They huddled in the corner together poor things. Him and all his girls.

Lovely picture btw - they all look very relaxed around him - he
certainly looks like a great leader :)

He's still young so he stays out of our way so far. He's curious about us but keeps his distance. These boys have appetites way bigger than the girls. He's always first to the food and I've noticed now the young girls eat first. Even tho they're lower in the pecking order. I wonder if since he grew up with them they'll be his favorites. I know the older girls will let him mate before the youngins are ready so that may change the favorites later. Lol.

Would be nice for them if he kept them his favourites, however I'm more inclined to think that will change. My two, Pedro and Jellybean were inseparable from birth up to about two weeks ago, they were so close and did everything together, they even laid their first ever eggs together but now they are like enemies, Pedro who is 2nd in command to Lialh the alpha, spends a big chunk of the day chasing Jellybean and gives her a sharp peck if she catches her. Is so sad for me, they were our first two and as I said, did everything together and went through everything together too - the two of them used to sit on my lap together almost everyday and would often nap snuggled together on my lap. When Jellybean was ill about a month ago I had to have Pedro inside too bcos she wouldn't leave Jellybean's side, now she'll barely let Jellybean near her. At night I have to wait for Pedro to be in bed for about 15 mins before I can put Jellybean to bed otherwise Pedro attacks her. Having said that though, if heard that roosters tend to bond a lot more than girls do but I don't if it's true.

Prince was raised with the two older girls. All the girls have taken to him and he is generally in the middle of all of them. I have saw the younger ones run and hide behind him if one of the older girls messes with them. When they were integrating, Prince got quite the workout running back and forth and breaking up squabbles. I relied on him heavily. When he was younger he ate first, then it went to I had to give him treats seperately or he got none, now he calls the girls when he finds something. He will go without and let them eat. Sometimes he does his little dance and tries to mate when they come when called, the girls won't have anything to do with it when they are eating. He doesn't push it either, so he feeds them for nothing...lol
