I believe new layer is still covered under 8 months, but again check your free feed oyster shell and if she keeps it up it’s worth asking about. One odd egg is just an odd egg.Thank You! Just was such a worry for such a little chicken to lay such a big egg!
Just to confirm though, Lilah isn't a new layer she's been laying for about 6 months so hopefully there still isn't any cause for worry?
They have oyster shells available 24/7, plus they are on layer pellets which has calcium in it, I also use a grit mix which has oyster shell in it too. I've only seen Pedro eat the oyster shell once but she could be eating it at times I'm not there - Lilah on the other hand eats it regularly as do my duck hens, Jellybean I've never seen eat it at all but her eggs are fine - Roo eats it but she isn't laying yetI believe new layer is still covered under 8 months, but again check your free feed oyster shell and if she keeps it up it’s worth asking about. Woooo! That's great! Two new egg layers in three days! My spring girls are getting into the groove. Took a little investigating to figure out who in the non-Cochin coop, but looks like my Buff Orpington. That means the Jubilee is behindtime, and is officially a freeloader and not a baby since she is about a month older. Get with the program Henny Penny!!
That is so cool! I would liked to have seen it before the dye, so thinking to try it myself. Would you mind telling me how and what type of vinegar to use?Ok mom brain guys! I forgot to get a picture of the eggs with the shell gone We put them in water with food coloring to learn about osmosis.
Here is the shell less egg after it was dyed.
Here is how osmosis passed the dyed water through the membrane and turned our egg whites that color! Notice the membranes on the first plate. They're pretty thick.

Just enough plain distilled vinegar to cover the egg and leave 24 hours. That is so cool! I would liked to have seen it before the dye, so thinking to try it myself. Would you mind telling me how and what type of vinegar to use?
