2018 Newbie Chat!

:goodpost: what a lovely story, brought tears to my eyes reading this - Oliver and his bravery, Pippin leading Cleo to safety and how little Cleo followed mums instructions :love
Did you happen to notice what Angus was doing at the time? Reason I ask is, I've heard similar stories and the other rooster (or roosters) led the others away to safety.
Well done Olive and Pippin :woot
Angus was with Agatha as she laid her egg.
She’s his favorite so he stays close when she goes to lay.
Plus she’s very fussy about the nest boxes and winds herself up into a tizzy because she wants everything to be just so.
And Angus runs around showing her different boxes trying to get her to go in them and she just complains and complains lol.
It’s too funny.

Egg update:
One of the eggs has internally pipped.
I can hear a faint peep every few minutes, and the egg is rocking pretty heavily. My heart is fluttering! I woke up
DH cheering the lil peep on! It now has 24 hours to make an external pip or it will run out of air.
Yay!! I’m so excited for you! :ya
They don’t always hatch on day 21.
It was day 24 when Cleo hatched.
I’m praying they all turn out well! :fl

Ohhhh wow, how wonderful! If you ever catch it on video please post it as I'd love to see this and I'm sure others would too :)
We often end up with one of the girls complaining because another is in the nest box. Always makes me laugh how they will go into the other nest areas but will refuse to lay in them because the want the one the other is using, they just stand in them clucking their heads off and I'm like, why don't you just use it lol. My drakes hate it when someone is making a fuss and they'll keep running in and out of the run rasping as drakes do but that just annoys the girls and makes them cluck even more lol.
If one of the others is in the nest area Lilah wants she just goes in and evicts them. Yesterday Pedro summoned up the courage to go in while Lilah was in there, surprisingly Lilah let her in and they were in there together for quite some time until Pedro decided she wanted to use one of the other areas instead and I was like, all that fuss and you didn't lay in there anyway lol.

Will you step in and help it if this happens or is there nothing you can do?

Sorry, hadn't seen your other post when I posted this:)

It's almost 1:30 am, I heard an unfamiliar noise out in the garden so went out to investigate, worried it might be a fox trying to get at my birds, turned out to be the 2inch thick ice cracking which clearly is melting albeit very slowly, hoping this means we are in for warmer weather :fl
