2018 Newbie Chat!

At five in the am, I awoke to very loud chirping. One of the chicks hatched, the other is currently zipping.

I’ve been dealing with several broodys (or wannabe broodys lol) in my flock lately.
Bootsie started it but she seems to not be particularly determined, at least not right now.
Which is good because I don’t want chicks in the winter.
Then Itsy, my OEGB, was broody but she would run off the nest when disturbed just like Bootsie.
To me...that’s not a determined broody, that’s a wannabe broody.
Now another of my bantams, Minnie, is giving it a go.
She, however, is pretty serious about it.
She puffs herself up at us, refusing to budge, and tries to bite (hard!).
This was how Pippin was.
I just don’t want to let her sit because it’s still cold.
If it were April, I’d let her.
I don’t even want to do it in March because there’s not much to forage yet.
I want Mom to have something to show the babies when she takes them out.
Still...it’s tempting, she was still in that box when everyone went to bed last night.
Problem is...it’s the favorite nest box!

Nest box issues seem to be a feature of having chickens lol
I'm dreading when Roo starts laying too, if she too wants the popular nest box it will be total bedlam in my garden Lol, it's already like world war 3 most mornings :he lol.
