It looks like she might’ve gotten the frostbite from when she would drink and her wattles touched the water.Quick update:
During the polar vortex here in WI my mom was chicken sitting while I was on my honeymoon in Florida. XD
Even despite her efforts in keeping my chickens un-frozen, Elsa did end up with a bit of frostbite on her wattle.

Luckily following the -50° wind chills we had a couple days of 40° days for it to recover a bit. Once the temp dropped back below freezing I started applying mushers secret to her wattle to prevent refreezing. (Luckily I had that on hand for my dogs anyway)
I wasn't very optimistic about it since it felt very hard and dry, I figured the tissue was already necrotic and she might just lose that chunk of wattle.
Well surprisingly it has almost fully healed!

And throughout all of this she has still been laying eggs.
One of my welsummers and Easter eggers had started laying again before the vortex but now those two have completely stopped again. 9.9
I will say I am definitely impressed with the wyandotte's egg production value![]()
That's exactly what I was thinking! It looks like she might’ve gotten the frostbite from when she would drink and her wattles touched the water.
I’m so glad she’s recovering!
What fun! I didn't think it looked like a box, but I couldn't quite make it out. It’s an order catalog for day old chicks.
