Here they are!! I sent out for DNA today, will name them when the genders are back. Right now the smaller brownish one is 'emu A' and the larger one is 'emu B'.

I am new to Emu's so I have to ask. . . is the styrofoam incubator large (tall) enough for the Emu egg or does it require a special or commercial incubator? You elp would be appreciated.

Which one is it? I believe I have seen people fit eggs into a Little Giant model by taking the grate out of the bottom, but I wouldn't really want to hatch in one of those because a standing chick could easily push itself into the heating element.

all this weighing, math and record keeping not my strong suit. what if you just keep the temp at 97.5 and the humility at 20% and turn your eggs ... thoughts? i mean that's basically all a wild bird does. really birds can only affect the temp. right? is this extra care because of the artificial construct of the incubator? i like to keep things simple as possible. not being lazy, just sometimes it seems we get over involved and try to over think a natural process. your thoughts .....don't hold back.

is this extra care because of the artificial construct of the incubator?

Yes. I have five eggs going right now. Three of them, I'm just having to keep the incubator at 97.5 and turn them and that's it, because they're losing the correct amount of weight - right now - without me having to add water to the incubator. If I was adding water (the humidity is actually below 20% in there right now) they wouldn't be losing enough moisture, and they could potentially drown before hatching.

The other two, I'm having to keep in a separate incubator with higher humidity and actually had to tape them as well to make sure they're losing the proper amount of moisture, because in the other incubator, they were losing way too much. If I wasn't weighing and keeping track, I never would have known this was a problem, they would have lost too much moisture, and they would have died before hatching.

Last year, I had an egg that was not fertile, and the way I knew that pretty much from the start was tracking weight loss. Otherwise, I would have just been guessing until it didn't show signs of life like the other eggs.
