And now I have six eggs! Trying not to get excited as it's at least a 50 day wait from here.

Hello! I am excited to join this year's emu hatch a long, last time was back in 2011/2012ish. I'm picking up 10 eggs this evening and will be using a Dickey incubator, previously I used a Reptipro successfully. The breeder I'm getting my eggs from suggested I do not use the automatic turner and to hand turn, does anyone else suggest this? The turner doesn't roll the egg, just tilts it from side to side, which is ideal so I was bummed for her to suggest this.

I open the door/lid several times a day even when I’m not turning to get extra oxygen in there.
When I was using the Reptipro the eggs filled up most of the incubator, so I bought an aquarium air pump for $10 & ran the hose into the incubator. That gave it a constant blow of outside oxygenated air all the time

how big should the air vents be? like how much venting do you have in the aquarium incubator?

I've got several holes in the lid to let air in all the time, and also since I'm hand turning I'm completely opening the incubator at least five times a day, too. Air flow is really important for these guys.
