I have a single muscovy duck egg left upon me, it is on day 26 to 27 now, i am hoping that this egg will hatch because it is the only one that i have.... There is a tragic story behind this egg, Matilda (his/her pretty mother), Rougan (his/her father), and all of the other eggs. Once upon a time, i bought a pair of muscovy ducks, i named them Matilda and Rougan, i kept them beside my House (the house lot is 3500 square meters and the alloted space for them is 100 square meters). I live in an exclusive high end subdivision here in the philippines so we have no neighbors near us, in fact neighbors are very far away from us and there are lots of trees everywhere! Well, anyways, back to the story, i also have a saxony duck before, it's from a friend of mine from Texas..... Her name is Alejandra, so i got all the three ducks together, Alejandra, Matilda, Rougan... They all lived happily together.....

The Nightmare starts now:
Since we have no neighbours and it's like a forest in where i live, monitor lizards (Bayawak) are my problem, they always goof around on my duck's place. Matilda and Alejandra (Alejandra is very far older than Matilda) were inseparable, i don't know why, trust me, you can see them always communicating with each other and eating together...

So time went on and this is where the tragic story starts:
So years went by and Matilda is excellent at egg laying.....
So she had a clutch of eggs!
One night when i came home from work, i have accidentally seen The bayawak fighting the two girls because i opened the wrong switch of light.instead that i should have opened the light for the gate of my house, i accidentally opened theirs and i heard noises so i quickly ran over them to check and there it is. Well you might ask why Rougan was not there, ughm it is because i kept him locked at his house because he likes to fly up to the trees at night.... At that time, ducklings were due to hatch on that date, so i suspect that their pipping attracted the bayawak. Matilda and Alejandra fighted the bayawak, but it was very large and fat.... Alejandra did her best and ripped off a little part of its scales, well the bayawak quickly bit the neck of Alejandra, she fell on herself and died... Matilda, however, escaped death. She pecked and pecked the eyes of the bayawak until it became blind... As soon as i found the keys on my bag (I have a lot of keys and the duck Yard is locked, not just a normal lock, heavy duty triple padlocks so i have consumed a lot of time). I hurriedly opened the duck yard's gate and ran over Matilda, but it was too late! Alejandra is already dead.... But Matilda and her eggs are safe (although she had few little scratches).. As soon as i ran over Matilda, i stepped hardly(I stepped on it repeatedly as many as i can) on the bayawak and threw it away! After that incidence, i sold Matilda's ducklings and i always open their lights at night. There were still many Bayawaks in that area. Since then, Matilda inconsistently lay eggs on one spot, she laid scattered eggs everywhere in their yard (because of bayawaks) and those eggs were being eaten by the bayawaks and she became sad, but not very sad because her partner is still there, Rougan....
So fast forward now, Matilda still lay eggs everywhere and one day i visited their yard and found two eggs and i kept it to incubate it and i tried to make a leaf incubator because my father does not want any electrical equipment working at night that produces heat.. Well through early incubation, my muscovy hen all of sudden went missing and that was also the time that my muscovy drake died because of fighting a bayawak (Well, he died and the bayawak also died).... So during the early days of incubation i had to toss the other egg because it was a dud. Midway through incubation, my muscovy hen went back very weak, i tried to keep her alive but she died later on... All that is left to me is that egg.... How tragic right? So this one egg is really important for me! I hope it hatches! Now you all know the full story! @JanetMarie @Miss Lydia

welcome to the hatch a long. i am so sorry about your ducks, i hope your egg hatches :fl good luck with your hatch

I am on day 6 with 18 white crested polish eggs (and day 10 with quail eggs, but those are my sons little adventure).

These are my first time with shipped eggs, but they all looked great when they arrived. Three had detached cells, but I didn’t turn them for the first few days, and all seem to have reattached well so :fl

I ordered three Favaucana eggs and three free "mystery" eggs from My Pet Chicken last month. My post office managed to lose my eggs for five days before "finding" them on the shelf where they were probably sitting the entire week. :barnie The eggs were packed well and intact when I opened the box, which showed no signs of rough handling, so I went ahead and set them that night as soon as I got them home. I received four Favaucana eggs and three "mystery" eggs, one of which clearly came from some kind of bantam. My eggs are due to hatch Friday night. Of the seven eggs I received, here is the current status.

Mystery Eggs:
1 scrambled
1 early quitter
1 (probable) late quitter - it's the little bantam egg; I'll do an eggtopsy tomorrow

Favaucana Eggs:
1 scrambled
1 early quitter
2 looking good so far!

So, my overall hatch rate is going to be very low, but it looks like I'll probably get two to hatch, and I technically only paid for three, so...:fl
