How do we survive in winter when they stop laying ?

When mine were alive they never stopped laying. Now I have all males. Natasha has gone fing nuts and is fing everything. Poor Sparkles. I think he's after the cat too.

Well our duck did stop last year due to the shorter days, but started to lay immediately after we bought a dozen yucky chicken eggs from Kroger…
Duck eggs stay edible for more than three months in a cool room (40-50's) as our attempts to sell duck eggs have been fruitless so far, we will have a nice storage in our (kind'a) root cellar.
Last year they stopped early December and started at the end of January, just two months and i want them to take a break, their bodies need that rest!

For us it’s hard not to order from Ideal because we can pick them up instead hoping the post office gets it right

I know, but do they let you look and pick the ducklings you like?
The closest hatchery from here would be Meyers in Ohio, 5 hours one-way.
I will mail-order if i need any more ducklings again…

Absolutely correct! I had to shush Pompom duck from a nest today. The Magpie girls are suddenly all interested in sitting…

For the second day in a row my ducklings showed no interest in getting into their freshly cleaned kiddie pool in their usual play pen. So after finishing the gate restricting them to an area roughly 25' square outside of their duckhouse, I moved them into it as I went about doing finishing touches on the inside of their duckhouse. They were very cautious, staying mostly within feet of their entrance. I tried to coax them towards the center of the area with a bowl of water. It was like they were saying: "NO THANKS, i WILL DRINK WHEN YOU TAKE US BACK TO OUR BROODER!" After three hours that water bowl was still spotless. I guess that this will count as day one of introducing them to their new home over a period of several days.

We were not patient getting our ducks into a new pool last fall. Mealworms did the trick
