2019 Spring Ducklings are here!

I believe the late evening shower we had yesterday was unrelated to the storm. It came from the south. Opposite direction of rotation . Thought it would be over quick so I stayed under the trees in the old duck pen. I was wrong and the ducklings In the new house we’re scared. Their first day out of the brooder and this happens. They ate about half as much as normal in 24 hours.

In this part of the Pacific North West, we seldom get thunderstorms. Yesterday while I was doing my cleanup all 5 ducks were outside as usual until a super loud thunder clap. It starteled me and all of the ducks were determined to get back into their house with me.

Newbie Question: Yesterday I saved 2 out of three naturally hatched ducklings. Today I am worried because it appears that they are not eating or drinking in their brooder even though I dunked their heads in each on their way into the brooder. What advice can you give me?

Magnolia Ducks Don't worry till tomorrow. Newly hatched ducklings often go 24 hours of more before eating or drinking. Still living off the yolk. Do you have more under the duck?

I need to plead ignorance on this. I only found a little evidence that the girl was born some days earlier by a few shell fragments and did not realize what I was seeing. Mama kept that baby hidden and quiet whenever I was around. D-day was just minutes old, wet and shivering in our cold mornings when I found him and his sister. His brother Dereck was dry and strolling through the duck house when the wife spotted him on camera. He is terrified of me because I removed him from his house and Mama. Two Mamas share six eggs under them as I write this. I had no idea that natural births had taken place.

Love the name D-day

@ Texag87 My Grandfather missed D-Day but was there for Market Garden. He did not return and we want to go see his grave one day. The only reason I want to go to Europe .

I am sorry for your loss. I do hope that you get to see his grave. His loss along with all the others made what we have today possible.

Is anybody feeding their hens the MannaPro oyster shells. I have the 50# bag and I do not like the size of their chunks. Evidently one or more of the hens does not either from the egg I found this morning. The egg has its yoke and its white fluid but does not have the calicum shell around it. This is probably the third one I have found recently and was not fragments like the earlier ones. I am wondering if I took the chunks of oyster shell and ran them through a coffee grinder if that would make it more palatable to the ladies.
