2019 Spring Ducklings are here!

Pics
Our ducklings had their first 2°C (35F) night outside and they are doing fine. Ok, they have a heat-pad and an infrared lamp but this morning they were waiting outside of their cave for me to bring their water. Your weather should be much warmer than ours here, you're on the sea-side of the Appalachians. I'm a bit worried about next week, the forecast says -10°C (14F) for Wednesday night - i may wrap some movers blankets around the duckling house.

We are right up next to the mountains and it gets really cold - I'm over it and ready for Spring! Yeah we're supposed to get down to 14F also - not looking forward to it at all. I mean gosh it was 60 last week! Blankets around that duck house sound good - electric heated blankets sound better LOL!

My gosh those babies are almost the size of your adults. Oh your Runners will intimidate they will try and bully and then they will all become one flock. lol And there is possibility since there are so many ducklings they will become boss and chase your Runners around. I other words it's going to be very interesting. When do they get let out of jail?
I don't know yet. I am planning to build a (covered) run as a jail-extension first. - I need to move them out of the duckling-house to clean. - The one thing i haven't thought through. With last years six ducklings, i could just grab them and stuff them into a plastic-container while cleaning, but with 14…
And then i must finish the second bedroom in the duck-house after turning it into "Duck Knox"…
Maybe by the end of March i can let them loose, if the tensions between the two groups have eased somewhat. Katharina and Curiosity Duck should be careful with their aggression towards the little ones: At least the White Layers will outgrow them and will become stronger than any Runner. Limpy is performing the right strategy by making friends with them.

They're so cute and they get so big so fast! Find any treatment for the severe meal worm addiction? I cold turkeyed Gil for a little while because they were the only treats that got her so excited she'd nip! :gig
As i wrote: There's no cure for meal-worm addiction once the damage is done.
I tried poultry pellets today, but they quickly saw through the scam and protested loudly! :lau
At least they love to eat ice-berg salad and apples, the grown up's are not so into veggies and fruits.

We hit 22°C (70F) on Wednesday, i was tempted to switch the hillbilly-trousers with shorts! And then next week we take a trip into the freezer again…
