2019 Spring Ducklings are here!

@"WannaBeHillBilly, Have they attempted brooder escapes yet?
No, they have very limited times that they are outside of the brooder. I have two cats (brothers) that I only trust one. The second one is questionable, so the girls are protected by hardware cloth just in case the cat slips into my office unnoticed. He is a master at being undetected in a room until the next time you walk in and wonder what happened here, as he beats feet out of the room before you can catch him.

Oh i know those cats! - When i was a young boy (long ago!) we had a ginger/white tomcat who walked through the vitrine with the highly priced glasses my mom had inherited from her mom. He never broke a single piece. Outside he was a bird killer: He sat patiently on a tree branch and jumped on top of birds that dared to fly under him. Cats and birds rarely become friends. I hope he will learn some respect once your duckies grow taller.

I wish the whole world could have seen how my ducks just convinced the cat to stop looking into their swimming pool. Two of them did zoomies side by side and came up on each side of his face, just drenching him! After that he decided the vanity was as close as he was going to get for awhile.
:lau:gig Just pictured that! The look at his face must have been priceless!

This is 20 days old. Just getting acquainted with their garage brooder as they wait for me to finish up with their duck house.

At tonights weigh in, the Anconas went from 534g to 2685g in 21 days. It is time to start the transition from Manna Pro game bird to Purina Flock Raiser Crumbles with added brewers yeast. This is their last night in the brooder in my office, they have spent two periods of time in the brooder in the garage getting acquainted with it which is in the photo above.

I never had a problem with leaving my cats alone with the ducklings, I trusted them more then the dog at the time... I still wouldn't trust Skye with a duckling, but she's been great with the adults. They got out of their enclosure three times today while I was at work (I came home to check on them and give water) and she was just laying in her pen, staying away from them.
