Sneezing seems to have calmed down a lot today.
I was checking up on Luna and she needs her middle toe nail clipped on her weak foot, anyone here have any experience clipping their nails?

The nails are fairly easy to do, just kinda pretend you are cutting your own!

When your nail gets long, you only clip off the white part of your nail, getting too close to the pink fleshy bits gets painful and cut it too short it can bleed.

I always hold my chickens still between my legs when I sit down. Look for the quick running through the nail and never cut right up to it. Clip it about halfway in between the end of the nail and the quick then file it down a bit if you want to take it closer to the quick without risking it bleeding.

You can always use a torch to see where the quick is in the nail.

If you do catch it, don’t worry just pop on something to stop the bleeding 😊

Luna.
this is Luna

She’s part of my original flock of Brahmas
Hatched in may 2018.
she’s my tamest hen, she’ll hop up and sit on my lap when I’m sitting outside and she really likes getting petted.
she’s had a bit of a tough run, she has suffered from an impacted crop twice and she had an awful case of bumblefoot all summer last year and she lost one of her toes, but luckily she got better and is now happier and healthier looking than ever before.

Your place
Hello and welcome to my chat thread 🐔👋
I’m making another one of these because the last one Went a bit silent and I was starting to talk to myself... Am I really that boring?? 😬 😂

Allow me to introduce myself.
I live in Ireland.
I have 30 chickens, 27 Brahmas, blue buff columbian, golden partridge, blue partridge and lemon Pyle are their colours, I could go through them all individually but I wouldn’t want to bore you..,1 RIR, 1 buff Orpington and 1 buff Orpington mix.
only had around 10 chickens at the beginning of last year but I became a bit of a Hatchaholic.. it was around 50 at one stage ...
The plan was to breed them but they ended up getting a respiratory illness so now I’ve decided to keep them as a closed flock. Which is kinda what I was going to do anyways because no one was buying the roosters and I just had so many.
15 ducks, the colours are magpie, Rouen, khaki and a few mixed. 10 Guineas, 2 cocker dogs, 2 rabbits 2 cats View attachment 2041209
