These posts are devolving into anger. Bottom line, BYC is supposed to be a place for people to learn and share their common interests: raising chickens. Does your gender or sexual orientation have any effect on your chickens? Do your pullets care who you love? They just want to be fed and cared for. Pretty much the same as people. Anything else is just noise.

I mean, you're right. My chickens don't care. But my neighbors might.... And they might try to report me to the city or call the cops on me for my chickens even if they are legal (has happened before).... And THOSE people probably care (even if they say they don't) and how they treat me as a result sure does effect whether I get to keep my chickens or worse....

That aside... Isn't there an ENITRE "social" section that has NOTHING to do with chicken keeping, though?

I have a solution. How about everyone accept that we are all different and stop reading threads with the intention of becoming outraged? How about people stop clicking the report button like they're channel surfing?
Grow up, people. We're ALL allowed to think and believe differently from one another. Reporting things we disagree with, or don't understand, does nothing but shut down discussion. This inhibits learning, and growing as a person.
It's really unfortunate that it's come to this. I'd rather read things I don't agree with, maybe glean a new perspective, than bland nothingness. I understand the sentiment behind this decision, but I'm disappointed that this community apparently lacks the maturity to respect one another as unique individuals, thus forcing this decision.
Guess I'll stick to the private threads... where all the real fun is, and no one gets offended at the drop of a hat. Peace ✌ out.

There’s nothing wrong with talking about your significant other. I have a male friend who frequently talks about his DH as well as a few female friends who talk about their DW’s. IMO the controversy comes up when someone feels the need to constantly announce “I am a nonbinary, atheist, Democrat.” I understand that you’re proud & I'm happy for you, but hey, it’s a little weird to keep announcing it. You don’t see people constantly stating, “I’m a heterosexual, black, male, Christian, republican.” Or “I’m a white, Wiccan, female on food stamps.” All of it is too much private information for a public forum.

The ‘no hate’ messages have good intent, but there has been an extreme amount of anger & violence put forth by some people under the guise of that message. That makes it a very controversial topic at the moment.

For me, the common sense line is drawn based on what is considered to be ‘private.’ Maybe I want to shout at the top of my lungs about my political affiliations, but the privilege to vote has always been done in a ‘private’ setting, therefore I don’t.

Bottom line is everyone needs to find the boundary between over sharing & being so darn sensitive. If you are homophobic, don’t go to the LGBT thread. If you are an atheist don’t go to the Jesus thread. Vegan, stay away from the butcher threads, etc... If we all put forth a little effort it can go a long way.
