2021 Baby Chicken order/planned list

I have my first chickens ordered for April! I think I got a good variety of friendly, calm breeds for my first backyard flock. One of each of the following: Barred Plymouth Rock, Austrolorp, Easter Egger, Silver Dorking, Cream Legbar, and Bielefelder. :D
Congrats on your first chicks!! You will love them!! 😁 and btw I love your dog!! :love

Ordering ISA browns from Townline. I love their birds and I love their customer service even more! On the West Coast we are pretty far from most of the hatcheries and Townline always checks in with us about shipping and how they arrived. We've done bulk orders for our poultry club over the years, combining it with our own, and out of hundreds of chicks we've only had one DOA. They're amazing! I'm hoping to get my order in Feb and get a jump on egglaying in the summer.

My McMurray catalog came today . They added a few new breeds, so now I have even more chickens on my wish list. I need more white layers, my egg basket is currently mostly blue and tan. Current plan is to order through my local feed store, so no small order charge (why do hatcheries make them so expensive?). The list: A bielefelder, salmon faverolle, white leghorn, red leghorn, silver leghorn, lemon cuckoo niederrheiner, cuckoo marans, welsummer, silkie, and a mille fleur d'uccle.

That said though, I love my Meyer birds and have gotten most of my birds and even hatched eggs from there and bred them so I’d recommend them but the shipping thing is understandable cause wow!!
I’ve had zero complaints about my birds nor their service either. I’m still nervous about mail ordering them this year on top of the cost. It’s always an anxious two or three days waiting for them to arrive and know they are safe.

Just placed my Meyers order for February. Yes, shipping is expensive for a small order, but I don’t want a large order of birds this year. And during cold months they will ship as few as 8 chicks.

I got 8 sex link pullets and one free “meal maker” they add in hoping you will donate the eggs to the hungry. Now I am calling around to touch base with local food pantries to see if, come June-July, they would accept an occasional dozen eggs.

Totally understandable!!! I’ve gotten from Ideal too and liked those birds too so that’s another option. 😊

I am ordering both chicks and hatching eggs from Meyer. Since I am only one hours drive from them, I plan to pick up the chicks but will have the eggs mailed. I think I had about 80% hatch from their eggs last year which were mailed to me. I think their website is fantastic!

I'm getting a Speckled Sussex and a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte in June from MPC. I ordered from them last year, and was pleased with the birds, even with a sexing error on one. They're friendly and calm.

I, too, was shocked to see the shipping nearly double.
