2 drops in a gallon of water helps chicks and chickens and other poultry to pep up. I'm a believer in essential oils because they work for me.
Maybe it just breaks up the boredom of drinking water for them? I give it to them for a week at a time off and on during the year.

Like I said earlier I have bantams, and they are particularly peppy, so the more activities I give them the better. I love using real wood products but sometimes they are just too heavy to move around all the time. These faux stumps outta give them something to do then bully my poor d'uccle hens.
