2022/2023 Emu Hatch-a-Long

If she leaves gifts of eggs, absolutely! I’ve been checking daily, so far none. If I remember correctly, she laid the first week of December last year.

May need to fire up my incubator as well… what do you use to sanitize yours? I’ve been just wiping down with bleach water.

I do vinegar and water at a 1:1 ratio and it works really well! If any place in the hatcher is really gross, I let it soak in straight vinegar for awhile.

I’ll try vinegar, a lot less chemical smell. Just dirty socks smell lol

She left a gift! Now I know why they’ve really been going at the young ones…

Woo! Gonna collect a batch, or put them in as they're laid?
I tried putting them in as they were laid last year, but found that if there was a 6 day gap between a couple eggs, the younger chick had a hard time integrating in the brooder.

So going to batch in 3s for now. Do you put them in as they’re laid? How many females do you have laying?

I'm gonna do batches. Easier that way, like you said, for integration. Plus that way I can fill orders for chicks easier because I make people buy at least two if they don't already have emus.

My inlaws are going go let me have my dream birds! Does anyone know if emu eggs will fit in a nurture right 360 with no modifications? I have found a custom emu egg turner for sale online that holds 4 eggs and a riser. The problem is that these things are expensive and I planned to run two NR 360s at once so it would be costly. I may feel better building or buying a seperate bator for hatching in during the almost two months they'll be incubating. The eggs are very well priced and I'd like to get them as immediately as possible. So these custom parts may not make it here in a timely matter either. I also know that these parts are 3d printed and there is no way that I've found to just buy the models to print them myself. It's either the NR 360s or I'm going to have to try to build or buy something else.

Yes BUT there isn't really room to hatch them in there. I've done small eggs in an NR360, no riser. Big eggs you would definitely need the riser. And then you'd need to come up with a plan for when they're ready to hatch. Mine get moved to a hatcher I made from a ten gallon aquarium when it's time.

I started mine in a NR 360 but it’s easier for me to keep my humidity consistent in my hovabator so I switched to that. I had a riser on the NR 360, but if you have smaller eggs you could do without the riser. Can you ask the seller how much the eggs weigh?
