2022/2023 Emu Hatch-a-Long

Pics
After you hear an egg whistle, approximately how much time does it take to start hatching? The egg has been wiggling and whistling when I talk to it for the past 24 hours or so, but hasn’t externally pipped yet.
They can take a couple of days. I’ve only lost one chick due to it being too sticky in the egg and couldn’t manage to get through the shell. The other 20 just took some time. Yours could still be absorbing yolk.

I would caution against assisting. They can bleed out pretty bad if a vein is hit or severed in the assisting. If you feel confident enough, you can try making an air hole if it’s taking longer than it should. But that’s risky as well.

I might have lost my first batch of eggs.

We have never lost power at this house for more than an hour or two. We had a snowstorm on Friday, but it wasn't even a big one. Probably about a foot of snow over like 18 hours.

But 11 pm Friday the power went out.

They did not restore it until 6 pm Saturday. So 19 hours. I had put the eggs in 24 hours before.

Oh no 😢 thats a crappy feeling not knowing if they’re alive or not.

We’re getting a winter storm on top of ice covered branches. That spells disaster and power outages here in Western Washington. We lose power many times a year for days at a time. We have two large generators and one small one designated just for the incubator.

BUT WE HAVE NO FUEL!!! So the generators are going to do no good without it obviously. Bringing cans with me to work tomorrow in hopes it doesn’t go out tonight.
