2022 Chick Order

Pics
Here's my other plan. One of my girls goes broody, and means it. I put 3 sexed pullet chicks under her. Maybe just more black Australorps or Buff Orpingtons from TSC, maybe buy some Bielefelder chicks from Cackle.

Going by 4 sf/chicken in the coop, I have room for 3.7 more. As for the run, I'd be at 15sf/each if I got 3 more.

I really would like to add onto the coop though...

I really want my stupid chickens to just hatchtheir own, but they refuse to go broody and the two times they have the each hatched 1 male. That does me no good! I have an overabundance of roos. I dont need more chickens, but if you're going to insist on doing it do it right! 🙄

From what I read on here, get a Silkie…they’ll brood for you all year long! ❤️

Oh and we’ll be snagging some Silkies locally whenever people start hatching chicks, Utah gets cold for winter babies
Where in Utah? I'm in Spanish Fork. Probably south of you.

Silkies, bantam Cochin, pretty much any bantam. :). I got started hatching because of a BLW going broody. Shucks, I've had a Leghorn fo broody! She was great. Yep, a white leghorn. I've also had a Leghorn mix go broody. Here she is..broody! That look!

I have hatched out a bunch of olive and EE egg layers this winter, feather wise mostly black, and blue and splash. some will have red neck feathers. I did order some chicks to come in the spring because I want to get a couple more dark and spotted egg layers. Plus rare egg layers (the rare ones will have white eggs.) I didn't want to get wyandottes but DH likes SLW, would like to get gold. We will see. I may add those 2 to my order.

I ordered GEESE for 2022: one Buff and one Toulouse (both females)!!!

Buuuuuutttt... if TSC has EEs, I'll snag a couple of them, too.

And I'm considering a couple heritage turkey hens... hmmmmm.........

I'm building a 10x10 coop and building a 1600+ sq ft chicken/duck/goose yard with a big pond. I HAVE to get more birds to occupy that much space, right?

We got a few last year. They were intended to be my girlfriend's chickens. She loved them, but eventually they all died. No obvious reason. Just randomly dead. I dont see us getting more. Me from a practical stand point and her from an emotional one.
