2022 Chicks - Cackle Experience

Pics
I ordered Splash Ameraucanas from Cackle Hatchery this year as well and can confirm they're generally louder and more shrill than the Splash Laced Red Wyandottes that were the second half of my order 🙉 Hopefully they don't continue to be as loud when they grow up, fingers crossed! I had a Production Blue chick once that I nicknamed Car Alarm that continued to earn its nickname into adulthood, haha...
Richard continues to be the vocal lead singer of the group. I was worried last night that they'd run out of water or something but alas, just Richard being Richard. Standing in the middle of the heat lamp surrounded by a sleeping sea of floofs...chirping away half asleep. He's such a character, and I'm calling it now that he's a roo since they were SR! Fingers crossed for both our sakes that it's just a chick-phase :gig

Some individual photos to start. Trying to do it in phases so they get used to me leaning over/reaching in without general panic.

Tagging with zip ties was an amazing suggestion, thank you to everyone who suggested it in the forums. They are the 4mm size. I got a pack of 12 colors so with 22 chicks it was easy enough to do Left (L) or Right (R) in a color. Naming convention for tracking is L.Color or R.Color.

The largest buff L.Yellow has been named Phoebe. Can't tell but L.Brown is the other buff in the photo. L.Orange is a BLRW and L.Green is a Splash Americauna (not Richard).

Seems like Cackle isn't as generous with the extras as they used to be 🤔 Maybe because of the higher demand for chicks nowadays? Whenever I ordered with them, they were very generous. Maybe it's got something to do with the breeds. Before I got to this last page and update on the BlackLR Wyandotte, I counted the fluffies 🧐 and got 22 all 3 times, then I went back and noticed your order was for 23 🤷🏻‍♀️ Thank you for the clarification. Gosh, those chicks are so adorable! It's been over a year since I've had chicks here and after seeing your pics, I'm finding myself coming down with chick fever 💕 Can't wait to see individual pics. I hope the weaker chicks are doing better now. Congratulations! Thank you for sharing
It's my first order so I wasn't sure what to expect on the extras. Probably is breed related as the Americauna SR were $10/bird whereas the Buffs and EEs were $4/bird so cheaper relatively to pack extras. After watching more last night I'm pretty sure the mystery chick L.White will be an Easter Egger not a BLRW. Pics to come later today. The BLRW that is weak is still sleeping a bunch this morning but I do see her get up to eat and drink so we shall see. The other two with sprawl seem to be doing much better though! I can't find the Splash sprawl (should've written it down duh) so it isn't noticeable among the others. The Blue sprawl is looking better, still wobbly but not as wide-spread so yay!

Not sure if you have come across the trick for changing the zip ties. Cut Through the block. Small wire nippers work great! That way there is no risk of cutting any legs trying to cut the strap part.
Thank you so much! Gosh I love this forum and the wealth of knowledge shared. 🧡
I did follow someone's suggestion to get end cutting mini pliers to cut the tail of the zip ties off close to the block and they work fabulous. Cutting the block to remove the zip ties with those will be a cinch and no worry at all about cutting toes and legs.
