2022 Chicks - Cackle Experience

All 3 of my Welsumers are laying now and I thought I'd share the variety of wonderful speckledness they lay so that all interested in the breed could see what variances you might get from Cackle's chicks. Also, this breed makes a loud wailing sound...it's different/unique from my others. When I first heard it I thought it was a distressed human LOL. View attachment 3238151View attachment 3238206

Thank you. And well they made the sound before they began laying. I'm sure it means something but it freaked me out the first time I heard it. I thought someone was hurt.

My chickens made that sound when they laid their first egg. Now they dont make it. Cackle hatchery did alot better job on my chickens this year than last year. And i will go back to them.

@Tremogg have your beilfielders started laying yet? I’m pretty sure mine aren’t yet so I thought I would see how yours are doing?

My small Cackle flock from the April 6th hatch has been laying for about a month or so now... or, well, 3 of my 4 chickens are laying. My speckled sussex is our last holdout. No idea when she'll decide to lay. But my Easter Eggers and Black Australorp are laying like champs!

You had your chicks a month before I got mine. Mine are not laying yet. One of the chicks I got was a Bielfielder.

Where do you live? You might run up against shorter days which means they'll wait until the days start to grow longer.

I got mine in March-April, they started laying in August i think. And they have laid like champs until it got cold out

Cackle just posted their 2023 prices. I know feed is more expensive but there’s a 40-50% increase on most of their birds.
