2026 Chick Thread!

Pics
I am going to offer chicks to people I know, just because I enjoy hatching them. I'm trying to decide what to do if none of my girls goes broody.

My sister's broody is currently sitting on eggs for me, though, so I'll have at least a couple chicks either way.

A bit early? Sure, but I can't be the only one thinking about getting chicks next year. Post about your plans here!

1. What breeds are you getting?

2. How many?

3. Are you hatching, getting day olds or started pullets?

4. Are you going to raise them yourself or let a broody do it for you?

Go wild and when the time comes, post pictures!
Just hatched a barnyard mix, father is Brahma

I would have been importing Black Rosecomb and Crele day old chicks from the USA as I live in the tropics (Puerto Rico) but destiny changed my plans when my daughter was suddenly diagnosed with cancer. I canceled my early order and can only consider purchasing coop age birds now if I find them.
Wishing all the best for your daughter ❤️ 💕

I was just about to ask where you got your barnevelders from because I als ordered barnevelders last year and both died from what I can only describe as failure to thrive :/ it made me wonder if the breed was more susceptible to health issues
I got 3 Barnevelders from Mt. Healthy Hatcheries in OH in April, all 3 are doing great.

What color are they? 🤓

Was offered to borrow a marans rooster to cross him with my pekins and thinking of giving it a go to get some cool darker eggs and slightly bigger chickens
Might hatch from incubator or broodies not sure yet
Is it safe for pekins to be with a larger rooster temporarily? Or bad idea
Also going to cross my blue silver partridge split lavender split mottled pair which should produce some very interesting results

I would love to get more chicks but I have 11 chickens already so it might have to wait until next year. I would also like to get some more hen ducks.
