21 week old hens not laying yet

Hi there. I have 3 Pullets who are almost 22 weeks old (polish, silkie, & speckled Sussex). I haven’t received any eggs yet, is this normal? I had chickens about 8 years ago, and if I remember they layed their first eggs around 18 weeks old.

Usually 22-25 weeks for most breeds.

The polish and silkie will probably be another few weeks. I have those breeds the same age

2x You need to research your breeds, Polish and Silkies are not considered 'layers' your Sussex should be laying soon. Check out the color of their combs/wattles and when they start squatting.

Should be seeing eggs soon! My polish (Margo) didn’t start laying until 7 months and my speckled Sussex didn’t start laying until 9 months! But yes like stated above most breeds start laying about 4-5 months!

My Silver Laced Wyandotte laid her first egg yesterday! I got her as a chick the first week of Feb. and she didn't lay an egg until Aug. 1, a long, six-month wait!

When will my red sex link start laying? She’s turning 5 months in 2 weeks. She squats and all.

Bright red comb, squatting, and getting noisy are all signs that eggs will be coming soon. Some breeds like Silkies are considered slow to mature and you can expect them to lay after 6 months of age, although sometimes you get an overachiever.

Yay! I know last year before my other hens started to lay, they took a little more interest and eggs. Don’t see her doing that yet but I really hope they’re coming! Thanks!

I have two barred rock hens that are the same age. Mattie, the "more mature" one started laying at 22 weeks old. They are 25 weeks old now and the second one, Mitzi, has not laid at all yet. Her comb and waddle is not as red as Mattie's so I'm guessing she is just a late bloomer.
