27 new chickies. One problem. PICS.

I would separate the silkies from the others to see if that helps her. Maybe she is just being overly picked on by others in there. There are a lot of them.

Should I just separate the two or all of them? The other silkies seem to be okay; even pecking at the other chickens. These ones just seem overly tired some of the time.

What sweet little babies you have!
When we got our chicks back in February, I had one tiny chick who was really lethargic. She didn't want to get up or eat or drink or anything, and she was always getting trampled by everyone. I took her out, and plopped her on a heating pad on my lap where she stayed the entire evening. I brought out another chick to keep her company, and between that, and waking her up every ten minutes to put her little beak in sugar water, she managed to pull through. She is now one of our absolute favorite pullets - and is very friendly with us. I like to think it was because I took care of her and she remembers.

Hi there,

Those are mighty fine little babies you have there.

I have had the very same issue for the past few days - lost one who refused to be hand fed, poor little Dot, but the other one, Camille, still has a voracious appetite and manages to hold her own even though she's a bit small and has trouble balancing. I feed her chick starter/water mush from a spoon every 1 - 1 1/2 hours during the day and I've seen her at the waterer on her own, so I know she's not dehydrated.

Best wishes with little Scrabble and Boggle. Sounds like you've got the situation well in hand.

Please keep us posted!

Thanks for all the support, everyone. I put Boggle and Scrabble back in the brooder after some TLC and some sleep. They seemed pretty okay when I checked on them, so I'm hoping they'll be able to fend for themselves overnight.

the only bad thing bout ticking them in at night,, is if the others "pile up" on them.most of the chicks i lost were "overnight",, so make sure your light is keeping them warm enough and maybe there wont be any piling.
( this is my short experience with them,, the more knowledgeable people may correct me

I checked on Scrabble again because of your post, the1much, and I'm glad I did. He was sleeping in the corner with the others on top of him, running around. I took him out and gave him some electrolyte water; I don't think he's been getting enough fluids while in the brooder. I'm not quite sure he knows where to drink, because I was giving him water with a bright green tablespoon measure, and the waterer is red. But, I dipped his beak and he tried to fight me off so I let him go. I'm barely gonna be able to sleep! I feel like a worried mother. :|

Scrabble survived the night!

Now hopefully he can get through the day while I'm at work. But, I gave him some water and food this morning and hopefully he knows how to drink from the waterer.. I still haven't seem him do it, though. Except when I dipped his beak.
