2nd attempt with Marans Dec. 3 hatch anyone want to join? (oops dec.6)

I'll be putting Marans, Delawares and Buff Orps in the bator on Thurs for my next batch... can I join in? Waiting for shipped eggs that should be here on Wed... hopefully my current batch should be out by then - fingers crossed, or I'll be forced to by a second incubator, Horrors!

If you set them (before noon) on Sunday, Nov 15 = day 1 Is this correct?
Then, your hatch day (day 21) would be Dec. 5, not Dec 3. Right?

I was confused when I read your post, and had to go back to the calendar. I set mine on Friday, Nov 13 (day 1), and my hatch is due (day 21) Dec 3.

Well I'm no authority but I have hatched a lot of Marans and I usually run the humidity from 40 to fifty, and kick it up to 65-70 for the last three days. One more thing about hatching marans is that the egg shells are harder than most and it is not uncommon to have to help the little buggers out of the shell. Just be slow and articulate while picking away the shell. Only help when you feel that they have struggled a little to long. Hope all your hatches are successful. Paraclete 2

yeah Kathy I dont know what I was thinking I must have been on a different month. you are right it would be, But does the time really mater. If it does Actually it will be more like the 6th.
I try to set my eggs according to my days off, which are Mondays and Tuesdays, that way I can stay up late and watch.

I'm actually trying a dry hatch where you dont add water unless your humidity drops below 25%. and then you only add 1 tbsp at a time. They you fill the wells with some water on day 18 and locker down. I know alot, will probally think I'm dumb, but it is a good discussion. Everyone I spoke to at the Marans table said to do dry hatch. (I really think I drowned my last babies.) I found a good article about how to do it so if anyone else is wanting to try it. Just so everyone knows I have never done this before now but I willing to try anything. Its alittle more important to get it right when your paying for the eggs or working on a breed. Any comments or has anyone one else done this before?

Yes that is an important part of it and a part I always seemed to not read! Room humidity needs to be about 50%. As I am looking at my hygrometer mine says 28%.

So I will have to bring it up. I bought a portable hot plate and have a pot of water on it and turn it on once in awhile. We are so dry out here it can mess with the hatch. You can get the humidity up and it sucks it right out of the bator.
