Thanks, but I don't have any of the Douglas Whites anymore. There was some bad septic issue going on in my backyard that was making my chickens sick. So I had to re-home almost all my birds and tair down a coop just to have my whole backyard dug up so it could be fixed. I was left to nothing but bantams and geese, which I had to re-home for some other reasons. This fall I was able to start rebuilding a flock which is six different hens currently. You can see a couple of them in my avvy.

Lol. I just mean that I would cull him if it's easiest/best to take his genetics out of the mix..... Because I don't really need him, I have more "pure" roosters... I just don't like them as much

What an adorable rooster!! I'd say that he's an EE mix. The comb and waddles give that away. He might be a green egger. I'd breed him just for his good looks! What a rooster!

Depends on your purpose. Do you have pure Ameraucana hens and you hope to continue the line? Then you might want to not keep the EE. If you are looking for many different colored eggs. Keep the EE. He most likely has a blue egg gene. He may have some brown. That would pass green egg coloring to the chicks which they would combine with the hens color for a new egg color.

I doubt I'm going to ask/explain this well... But until I hatch his offspring, do I have no way of knowing for sure that my EE rooster is a blue gene carrier, even if all of his "sisters" by the same rooster lay blue/green?!
Even if he's guaranteed blue carrying, would his babies (with various light brown/pink) layers still be EEs? Would the genetics be more "muted" or are they either 'there or not there's? Wondering the same about breeding him with my BCMs for OEs...
I have two purebred Ameraucana roos as well, so I COULD cull him and no for sure what I'm getting; but he's super handsome and calm... And find funky heritage mixes cuter than purebreds a lot of the time

Your rooster either has one blue egg gene, two blue egg genes, or none at all. You can’t really tell what he has until you breed him, but if all his sisters lay blue eggs, there’s a good chance he has one or two blue egg genes. If he had two blue egg shell genes, all his offspring will lay various shades of blue or green. If he has one blue egg shell gene, half of his offspring will lay blue/green.

If you do breed him, definitely update this post with his offspring. He’s a beautiful rooster.

He's definitely EE, he came from my Ameraucana rooster and Chocolate Cuckoo Orpington And thank you! The dead honest truth is that I didn't really like him all I thought about giving him away and everybody raved about how handsome he is fickle fickle me.

Truthfully because I'm hatching to sell this season... And I don't want to be listing them as EE/OE if it was a lie! But with 2 full AM roosters, and him being likely at least one blue gene, I don't think it wod be untruthful? And he would give people cooler looking chicks than my blue Ameraucanas would, IMO?

If his sisters lay blue/green eggs, there's a good chance that he carries the gene too. Not a guarantee, but a good chance.

The blue egg gene is either there or not.
Some chickens lay darker blue or lighter blue, and people have been trying to figure out the genetics of that, but I think they've only gotten as far as "it's complicated."

Any chicken that lays a blue or green egg could be called an Easter Egger (EE), no matter what the parents are--so any of his babies that do lay blue or green eggs would be EEs.

For brown eggs, the shade is usually somewhere between the darker-egg parent and the lighter-egg parent. Again, the genetics are not well understood.

I agree, you would know more about what you will get by breeding one of the Ameraucanas. But if you want to try this Easter Egger, I'd say go ahead. You should get cute chicks, and even have a fair chance of getting blue or green eggs from some of them.
