2nd morning help

The pile was directly under the lamp. The brooder is 3ft by 1.5ft. They seem to have plenty of room and are pretty separated when active. They just pigpile at nap time.

They will pile up and stay under the lamp if too cold. Using an inexpensive thermometer on the floor of the brooder under the lamp is good to maintain the right temperature for their age. Sorry for your loss.

You might need to lower your heat lamp... so they are spread out at nap time. Piled at nap time means cold.

A vet is NOT needed... those are simply cases of failure to thrive... due to shipping stress or because sometimes their are internal issues we can't see making them unable to digest food once their yolk has been used up... hence no energy to move out of the way of chicks trampling them.

Pasty butt is deadly FAST.. and causes the heavy breathing previously mentioned. Keep eyes open for any pasty butt!

Is your feed store going to replace it? I know one of my LFS won't let her shipped chicks go until they are almost a week old as she wishes to prevent this from happening to her patrons. Shipping (and hatching) can be hard, life is intricate and amazing

Crush the feed a little extra can help. Poultry nutri drench direct dosed to the beak of any still acting sluggish is suggested. Or a little in the water.

I agree, if they are directly under the lamp piling up, then they need more heat. You want them spread out. Snuggling is fine, piling is not.

They will quickly outgrow that size of brooder, do you have your coop/run ready for them?

TBH I think even with the loss, it just makes us focus more on who we have. The 2 Foghorns are still not very active but the other 9 are having a great time.

I am having the same issues with my 2 Golden Comets. The rest are thriving but woke to one barely there and the other having issues balancing. I bought mine from TSC. Any update on yours? Pics below. 1st chick still kicking occassionally and breathing 2nd still standing but wabbly. I put them bacl directly under heat to help. 2nd chick will eat and drink and has made it around the brooder a few times.

Do you have any poultry nutri-drench?
I would give her 1-2 drops to see if that helps.
Not sure what's happening, could be failure to thrive. Do what you can to get a few drops of fluid into her.

Can you give her a bit of sugar water or electrolytes - get her hydrated, then make your store run.

Have you tried a small separate dish of water with electrolytes? Have you verified by dipping their beaks in water that they have taken a drink? Also, you may want to research apple cider vinegar with the mother as well. My chicks did really well with the electrolyte water and ramped up quickly after getting them delivered.
