2nd "Triple C' coop finished!

Hi. We love your coop and are building ours off of your design. Can you tell me what you used for the siding for the coop itself? Thank you!

A couple questions, if you have a moment to answer.

I plan to build a coop over the next few weeks very similar. How did you attach the hardware cloth to the wood? Screws and washers, handheld staple gun, electric staple gun, or something else? Did you reinforce this by placing wood boards along the cloth on all sides of the frame?

What type of brackets did you use to attach the 2x4 beams for the roof? It is difficult to see from your picture but looks like a very efficient way.

As someone who has very little experience building something like this and few tools, do you have any suggestions or advice for things you learned in the process?
I think our area will be 8' x 16'. I was planning on purchasing 48" x 100' hardware cloth. For framing purposes, is it better to go for the 36"?

Thanks for your great design and taking the time to share with this group!

Welcome to BYC!

Doesn't look like @brounii has been active here for more than a year now....but....they did create an 'article' with more details of the build.
https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/the-triple-c-the-crouches-chicken-coop

It looks like they used pretty typical rafter brackets...
....and I would suggest to plan your framing to match your hardware cloth width, so that all HC edges are firmly attached to framing.
Looks like they used staples, what kind not sure-as I didn't read all of article,
but I would strongly recommend screws and washers unless edges are covered with screwed trim boards.

Hello all,

I just wanted to post a few photos of the new smaller coop we've built to home our new 8 chicks. They are now 4 wks old. The new coop is the one to the right of the existing coop. We plan on connecting the 2 runs once the chicks get older and can fend for themselves.

Picture of the inside of the coop right after we put the chicks out there today.

showing the run under the coop.

showing the trap door that leads to the run under the coop.

A couple of pictures of the poop board and roost.

And now ..... several pictures of the new chicks. (We have 2 buff orpingtons, 2 silver laced wyandottes, 2 partridge rocks, 1 australorp, and 1 double laced barnevelder.)

The last picture here, is the new EcoGlow heater for the chicks. We love it, and so do the chicks! So much safer than the usual heat lamp.

For now we have a pre-bought coop and 8 "ladies" - but I love love your idea and I'm hoping we can pull off a coop build with as much talent and skill as you guys have here. I am not very good at building things, but am a perfectionist for details. I love all the little additional items you've thought of (like the weather/humidity sensor), the sand under the roost bars in the new coop, and the chick heater that's safe.... Very good job! Very inspirational. How are your kiddos doing?

Hi from my MI flock! Jenn

Hello, I have the same coop and run layout that you do. Can you tell me if you have plans or a layout of the addition you made to the setup. The one for small chicks on the right of your picture. I love it. I am need of a place to put chicks/sick birds/etc. I would appreciate any information you have.
Thanks, Lois
