3 days, chicks haven't arrived

Mine came today---got a call early this AM but they said not to come until 9 am when they opened. I was first in line. I ordered 20, but I think they sent 22 (on Monday). One was DOA, smashed flat in the bottom of the box with everyone else stepping on her. Reason I don't know the exact number is that I was counting them as I took them out and dipped each little beak in the sugar water (with QuikChik in it too), but when I came across the dead one, I lost count. Now the little buggers run around so fast and change positions so I STILL can't count them! My son said, take a picture and then count. But the problem is the brooder box blocks part of the cage and they can hide........I think I have 21, but not absolutely positive.

The hatchery says they will do fine for 3 days after hatch, so if they hatched Monday or during the night Sunday night, they are going to need to get there soon for food and water.

I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and I hope you get that call soon. It's so hard to wait for them!

Yay!! I got the call from a post office to the North of us. My chickies are here. DH is leaving work early to get there before they close.

I'm sooooooooo excited.

Alright, I got a phone call from a post office about three hours from here, they're due to get on a truck at 4:30 *sigh* this is stressful, I've been calling offices all day. The sweet man at this next office is going to stick around since he's the last one there, I believe the disappointing tone and worried "oh really?" helped

If I don't get there in time they'll have to wait until tomorrow's truck to my post office.
Glad to hear you guys got you're little chickies finally

This is a wild goose chase! They're being shipped to another office then to a warehouse distribution center about thirty minutes away but it's shut off from customers, so I have to wait for them to be shipped to my regular post office in the morning. I'm losing patience...

This is the worst experience I've ever had with shipping, I'm scared to open the box when I get it... hopefully it peeps.

OOOOH, not good. Hope they make it. They're pretty tough little things. Will they let you come in early to get them? And I would follow Pat's advice and bring food and water for them. Set up a big box in the back of your car and let them eat and drink right away. Fortunately it hasn't been real hot or real cold to add to their stress.

. The post office is getting in bad shape and they are just throwing trucks in every direction to try and save money, as the expense of our chicks. If the post office continues in this direction, it may put the hatcheries in hardship due to having to replace so many lost. You know it's a shame how things are changing, chicks have been shipped through the postal office for over 100 years. But it all may change.
