3 dead chicks in 8 hours. What am I doing wrong?!?

Corid is usually not necessary in the first week of life, and with stressed chicks, I would tend to give the vitamins and electrolytes for a couple of more days. But that is strictly up to you. It is the thiamine or B1 that is not given when on Corid, because it works by mimicking thiamine. Many of us dig a piece of sod and place it in our brooders for chicks to peck on and gradually be exposed to coccidia in our environment. Chicks love to peck the grass and it can be replaced every couple of days. A little chick grit can be put in a container for free feeding, because of the grass.

Your chicks were Vaccinated For Coccidiosis right? Treating them will negate that, just so you know.

If you are giving Amprolium (Corid), then don't give the Nutri-Drench during the course of treatment.
In case you need it and to make sure you are giving the correct dose. Amprolium (Corid) Liquid Dose is 2tsp or Powdered Dose is 1 1/2tsp per gallon of water given for 5-7 days as the only source of drinking water.
Ok. Thanks.

Glad to know. I had literally just mixed the corid but not yet given to chicks.
I opened another thread on the vitamin question, among others, so this addresses all of my questions. Thanks.

Grass would be a nice luxury about now. We are in a winter storm, again. I swear the robins will pack up and head south again if this keeps up.

I should mail you a patch of sod. In the last couple of weeks here, it looks like Ireland with all of the spring rain. Good point about the coccidiosis vaccine. You don’t want to negate the vaccine. Sometimes chicks will still get coccidiosis due to possibly getting missed in the vaccine line, or maybe getting too much exposure of a bad strain.

Update: the last Niederrheiner is weak. She was at the feeder and water let twice last night, chirping loudly able to get back to heat. This AM is sitting on butt, crop is swishy. I gave a gentle massage to crop Vent clear. She is having intermittent clonus in the legs... Like a dog scratching. She accepted sml Amy of nutridrench and I gave vit E. I have her isolated. Keeping her warm with heating pad. Everyone else is doing well.

Anything else I should be doing? Trying to upload video.

No video. Sorry, I’m not tech savvy

Thank you for the offer. I think I can thaw a bit of dirt from the plowed bare areas if need be, but It should warm up next week. This cold period is not typical.

Where did you order them from? If there is an issues on the hatchery’s side, I’m sure you wouldn’t be the first one to deal with it. Not saying there is, but if it’s only happening from their chicks & not the ones you picked up from TSC

I purchased from McMurrys. The chicks were cold stressed. Lost 3 niederrheiner and a bielefelder. Now this one. All vaccinated for Mareks and coccidiosis.
Hatchery claims they rarely have issues with shipping and blame USPS. I will NEVER order via mail again…I feel helpless watching these babies struggle like this.
TSC chicks seem a few days older, one flew across the 6 ft brooder- not what I would expect from a <week old chick.
