We had some bad weather here today and the wind threw around some of the thing I had temporarily rigged for a top to the run.

Well while on my mission to fix things I decided to check for my usual one egg in the next box. To my surprise my girl had layed no egg in her box.

Something in the corner of coop caught my eye! Three purdy eggs on the coop floor in a make shift nest someone had made today. One looks the same a the everyday egg that I have gotten for the past month. The other two were lighter in color and very smooth. So I am not sure if there was an egg in that spot that I missed yeasterday or all three hens decided to lay today. Either way I was so suprised to see it!

Congrats on the eggs!!!! Sometimes new hens will decide to lay their first egg at the onset of a storm. I have heard that it is because of the low barametric pressure that causes them to do this. We have had many new eggs appear during storms.

ThePamperedPullet, Good information! I joked around and said "the storm was so bad it scared the egg out of them!" LOL Does anyone think I should add the fake egg back to the nest box to remind them where to lay? Or should I add a second nest box incase not all three want to use the same box? Thanks for the info. You guys on this forum are THE BEST!!

3 eggs! What a nice surprise for you! I was headed out to the hen house yesterday to place golf balls in the nest, hoping to encourage an egg out; must have been the thought that worked because when I went in to place the golf balls there was a FIRST EGG! Ya, so what if it was 2", it was perfect and the most excitement I had all day. Ya, pretty slow around here.

How many boxes to you have? 1 box per 4 hens is my understanding.

Congrats again.

Congrats on your FIRST EGG marylouiseau!!!!! I had one nest box until about one hour ago. I added a second just in case.

I will be home all day today so I am going to keep an eye out to see who is doing what. So that means I probably won't get one single egg today
