3 hens, 3 roosters??

Hey, my grandad has kept chickens for years. And I. The past he has kept 3 hens with 3 roosters. Is this normal? I know that normally the number of hens is surpassed to outnumber roosters? But he had no problems what so ever?

I’d love to hear any stories you people may have of your chickens

Usually if you have a mix of hens and roosters like that the hens will be over mated. I don’t think it’s normal. But if he has no problems then I don’t see any reason not to. How old are the hens and roosters ?

it's not common practice but it's not unheard of.
I used to have 3 roosters with 3 hens and everything was always perfect, right now i have 3 different roosters with 5 hens and they are all doing just fine too.

This occurred years ago, they have all passed away now, they spent about 3 years together with no problems, then my grandad decided to give them to a friend, who only kept 1 rooster and 2 of the hens, as well as a hen he already had

I don't see any reason to stop doing this if he has never had a problem

True, it can be done...could depend on housing and space and/or the individual birds.
Maybe there won't be any bloody fighting or over mating,
but there can be stress to the whole flock that we might not notice.

Have a place ready to put the extra males,
cause when it gets ugly it happens fast!
