3 month old Olive Egger- Pullet or Cockerel

Good to hear my chickens aren't "broken." haha

I'm definitely learning a lot more. I did a ton of research over the years knowing I'd eventually get chickens but unfortunately, the research doesn't help much. Everything I've read on "average time" has been wrong for my flock. I'm learning that "average" varies widely.

For example, everyone I know who had chickens told me they start laying at 18 weeks, sometimes earlier. Ha! Not a single egg from my 6 different breeds and they're the same age as the cockerel.

This usually depends on breed. My leghorn started laying around 19 weeks as well as the Australorps. Legbars and Easter eggers about 26 weeks, buff orpingtons around 9 months. My cuckoo marans around 20 weeks now still not laying.

Update! I heard a perfect crow this morning as I was leaving for work. I guess he was just waiting to perfect it!

He's still a good boy so far. A little over 23 weeks old. I've caught him dancing and tidbidding for the ladies. He has been successfully mating with willing participants. He has made some attempts with the girls who aren't ready but he lets go of them as soon as they yell at him.

He gets beat up sometimes by my sassy Barred Rocks when he looks at them funny. He's so much bigger than them but he's still scared of them.

Fingers crossed I have myself a good Roo! I'd like to keep him but I'm prepared in case he turns mean.
