3 month old Olive Egger- Pullet or Cockerel

Here's an 5 month updated pic of my handsome guy. He's still not crowing or mating. He's very much the gentlemen (so far...)

Just updating (for my own records and in case anyone is curious).

He'll be 18 weeks old on Wednesday. He finally grew his sickle feathers and they have this really cool green and purple sheen to then. He also has some gold flecks appearing on his wings. He's still very sweet... so far.

No crowing at all! So I'm guessing he's just a late bloomer. Hopefully that's a good sign... my pullets of the same age haven't started laying yet.
Hey, interested to see how the roosters look now. Cheers

Here he is today! He'll be 22 weeks on Wednesday. He's been attempting to mate for a week now but still no crowing. I feel like he should be crowing by now?
Not necessarily! I had one that didn’t crow until like 7 months old LOL and I’ve heard of over a year old. On the flip side, I’ve also heard of 8 weeks old or even one was like days old lol

There is no timer for these things. Cockerels will get their male specific feathering when it happens. Usually it's 12 to 14 weeks, but it can be earlier or much later. Same with crowing. It happens when it happens. Sometimes it's not until they're even older than 7 months old. And some males simply don't crow that much, especially if they don't hear other roosters crowing.

Comb/Wattle size and color remain the best indicators of gender before 4 months or so. Eye shape/expression has nothing to do with it.
