(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes, we are new to chickens. We got our chickens when we bought our home and the previous owners asked if we wanted theirs. We knew they had a pretty impressive custom coop, but we were originally planning on waiting a year to "settle in" before deciding if we were up to the challenge of having chickens of our own.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 3 Rhode Island Reds. They are 1 year old based on our information and one lays soft eggs even though oyster shells are provided.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Answered above

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Originally through doing LOTS and LOTS of google searching for chicken knowledge. Then, while asking for a hands on mentor, a friend told me about it.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I play piano, love to crochet, book bind, paint, read, jig saw puzzles . . . I'm up for trying new stuff all around - unless it's surfing or ocean sports because ... well, Jaws. I like working with my hands which is why "crafty" things are my go to.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have a great husband and three enthusiastic but sometimes trying children younger than 9. Chickens are our first and only pets as of yet (unless you count the house flies), my husband is allergic and we have differing opinions about which hypoallergenic dogs are manly enough lol. I am a mom - some days I love it, some days I hide in a closet with a diet Coke and a Snickers and scream, or cry, or whatever the situation demands. We recently moved closer to family after 10 years of being at least 12 hours away from any relatives. We miss our friends dearly, but it's nice to see the kids bond with their cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents.

Good morning....:frow
Welcome to BYC!
We are so glad you joined our flock.
The video should help you find your way around:

Great to meet you Carrie, often have days like that but, hide with a diet(no caffeine) coke and a pint of ice cream - lasts longer than a Snickers bar. Do you know there are Snickers pints & candy bar sized ice cream.?
