Hi guys

i was always under the impression that the warmer the weather is, the more frequent the chickens lay.
which seemed true, becuase in winter...they lay alot less than they do now.

but up until the past 3 days.....we have had ROASTING scorchers....
and NO eggs from BOTH hens...... the older one layed every day but may miss 1 or twice a week..so average of 5 - 6 a week.
the younger one has just come into lay, she lays approx 5 a week.

so does real HOT days affect thier egg laying?

i have made sure there is adequate shade in the run/coop. but shade cannot help the temperature.

let me know guys
thanks

It could stress them out a bit. Make sure they have shade, to get out of the sun, lots of water and maybe some electrolytes in it too.

High temperatures lower feed consumption. Eggs are produced out of nutrients the hen has eaten but doesn't need for her own maintenance. They may not be eating enuf to have any excess nutrients.

Giving them treats that they really like may not provide the balance they'd need for egg production. I don't think there's much to do other than wait for cooler weather.

Steve
