3 unexplained deaths

I can garuntee the deaths are NOT from the temperature in the brooder or I would have had deaths a long time ago I’ve had over 200 chicks go through this brooder and the one in the barn and have never had a single death these deaths where obviously from something else a disease or weak genes from other people’s chickens because I have been hatching other people’s eggs for the first time lately. And no the cage is not over crowded if you look in the whole picture you can see they chose to all lay together there is lots of room to be spread out the fact you take the time to comment but not be helpful should have you removed from this page . You are the reason people are afraid or ashamed to ask for help when something goes wrong and you do not help with giving any insight on what actually could have gone wrong so why are you even commenting please remove yourself from my threads I will no longer be using this site and use the Facebook page as people there are actually helpful not useless and rude.

I've kinda read along on your thread as I enjoy learning from the outstanding experts here on the ER forum, two of which are really trying to help you.
I must say that just because you had no issues in the past with your brooder set up does not mean it is appropriate now. It truly is over crowded. And as @staceyj has pointed out, mechanical items can and WILL malfunction. You may have different air flow going through the brooder. You may have slightly weaker chicks that need things more "consistent".
Please don't be so defensive. No one here is attacking you and everyone wants what's best for your chicks, mostly you or you would not have reached out for help.

Sometimes with age and use lights can vary in output. Dropping off in light output and increasing in temperature, the greenhouse bulbs I am experienced in working with, anyway. So it is possible that your bulb has changed in its heat output with use, and is now running hotter than you’re used to, so you need to raise it higher.

I understand how frustrating it can be when you have problems and can’t figure out why. You asked here because there are many very experienced people who want to help. It never hurts to check something, even when you’re “certain it’s not the problem”, because conditions can change. @staceyj and @Texas Kiki are just trying to help you fix your problem. I only see one rude poster here... (I just saw this thread, I haven’t been lurking and withhold useful info)

I am glad your chicks are all doing better.

Are THESE chicks more delicate than the ones you usually hatch from your own eggs? Are they a different breed or just more fragile? Just thinking that size of the chicks and overall health of their genetics *could* play a part in this mystery. What's good for your past broods might not be good for THIS one.

I’m mostly a lurker, but just have to speak up here. @Texas Kiki is a wealth of information and always willing to help. And she’s not saying anything different than @staceyj said. It may be hard to hear that something we care so much about could be going wrong because of something we did. No one is accusing you of not caring about your chicks. They’re saying to do things they know could be going wrong based on tons of experience. Because you asked. They even took time to check your previous posts for continuity of the story. Several times they suggested things that were first line defense and there was never an indication that you ruled those things out. I get it that you’re upset, but if you ask for advice and they give you that advice and you don’t do it, how can you be angry with them for trying to help? It’s frustrating and scary not to understand why chicks die, I get it. But please don’t bite the generous hand that reaches out to help.

I am no chicken expert. At all! However, I read this post (and the one about the chick with the hurt leg) and I don't think anyone was trying to be rude. I think @staceyj was saying that since you're avoiding answering questions, it's frustrating and hard to help. Which it is.
And just my two cents, if you are so sure that they're suggestions (about the heat) are wrong, yet many experienced people have said it's a strong possibility, then I do agree that that is unfair that you're not even willing to toy with the idea.

If you had read it you would see that I did check my brooder and the one that the chicks where dieing in was fine
Was the brooder with the dead chicks the one where you measured 97? How old are the chicks? I found with mine, at 3 days old, 95 was already too warm. How big is that brooder and how many chicks are in it? It is a good idea to also measure the temp at the far end, away from the lamp - it should be much cooler there. Besides the lamp putting out more heat as the bulb ages, the temp in the barn could be slightly higher than at other times...

@Vhope77 I noticed you’re getting hit with the same storm front as I am... I’m not sure how decent the shopping is in your area, but at a Canadian Tire you can pick up a battery Charger $60, Deep Cycle Nautalis Battery $180ish, and a small inverter that can run a low wattage heating plate... like the Premier or Brinsea 50 for extended power outages. If you frequently lose power for extended times it is a good back up plan, and with two batteries you can charge them up off a generator when you boost your freezers.

Hot water bottles wrapped in a towel and a propane campstove to heat water for them can get you through a short outage. I’m brooding offgrid using solar, for the first time, but have successfully run the heating plate off one battery and inverter set up for 16hrs straight. You won’t be able to pull enough juice to power a traditional heat lamp though...

Best of luck!

Hey woah! I’m saying that when you were asked you didn’t give feedback
You did come off a little strong. We all have to remember that words on a page don't show our face or tone of voice. What we might think was said kindly, come come across the page totally different.
