3 week old baby chick, puffed feathers, head pulled in, lethargic, slight drool, runny poops, growth stunted.

3 days ago we started the flock on save a chic electrolytes. This seemed to not help at all. Last night I started the flock on liquid corid with 3.75 mL in our 1.5 qt waterer thanks to yalls amazing answers to others questions concerning cocci. I didn't notice very much improvement this morning before work.
Sounds like coccidiosis to me.. the electrolytes may make things worse and/or should be discontinued during treatment with Corid, in case they also contain B vitamins.. since the Coccidia feed on thiamine.

If she isn't drinking much she may need a dose directly to the beak.. a small drop just below the nostrils will roll around into the mouth (I hold the chick and use my finger bend to help catch the drip). Or encouragement by bringing the drink to her,

There are 9-11 strains of coccidia known to effect chickens.. the deadlier strains, like the one that shows up as blood in the stool would kill a chick off much faster simply from the blood loss. Many chicks survive, even without treatment simply by improved conditions IF their individual immune system is strong enough.

Thank you for the response. I took them off electrolytes when I started the corid treatment last night around 8 or so.

Regarding thinking runny poop means no constipation, think of a kitchen sink drain that still drains but takes ten times as long. Would you assume you have a drain clog or that everything is just splendid because, well look, the sink is still draining?

The longer you wait to address this issue, the more likely the chick will die.

It never hurts to treat for coccidiosis if you suspect it. Treating for it doesn't preclude treating for constipation. It's possible the chick could have both issues, and it doesn't hurt a bit to treat for both at the same time.

Well, I just read in your other thread that she had a severe accident crushing her head on the top of the brooder.

So she might suffer from brain swelling for a while and experience bad headaches.

How about treating her for constipation? That's pretty common for this age, and it would make her feel very sick. All the information you need is in the comments on your other thread on this

That makes perfect sense to me. Thank you! I just fed her a teaspoon of coconut oil. She ate half of it easily then I started to feel her crop after feeling her crop she became more lethargic so I'm going to give her a few minutes and get her to eat the rest

How is your chick doing by know?
We lost her on day 6. We tried everything we could. She ate the full teaspoon of coconut oil. And we treated the whole flock with corid for 5 days. The other 3 chicks are doing fantastic. Thanks again for your help. Now we know more and are better equipped to deal with this in the future.

Very sorry you lost her. :hugs
