3 week old chick

are you talking about my chicken?
yes he has gotten some more black in. the comb looks to be turning pink which leans me toward rooster. plus he now has black spots on one side in the front and not the other. I am told sporatic pattern is a roo! it's amazing how fast they grow and change! if we have to find him a new home I will def be looking for another for my daughter because Custard is hers

thank you!

oh aha, well i am no expert but if you can't see any wattles yet then i would say there is still hope. I've seen a few threads where someone s chick had a pinky comb like yours early and was a pullet. And people say that pullets can act like roos. After reading your earlier post i must say that i don't know anything about sexing a chick by its feathers, either colour or pattern. Some Roos develop slow signs, some pullets mature sooner. But, until you see some more obvious signs i would stay optimistic!

I am trying really hard to stay optimistic. it's hard for me to compare him to his sister that's the same age because she is a cuckoo maran/rir mix. her comb is a single grayish black color and tiny. I did see someone else say they thought their chick was a roo for a long time and turned out to be a pullet! his behavior at this point does not say roo! but he is young. at what age do you see signs of the back claw (forgive my lack of correct terminology) that a rooster gets?

, Oh, that is so sad!! :( Fingers crossed he/she is a pullet, but by what you described, I guess it is a cockerel... Why don't you talk to your neighbors and get them to see what a nice chick he is. Anyway, good luck! :)

I have no idea when their spurs come in properly. I think you have quite a number of weeks before he would even cockerel though. Giving you more time with him, and more time to find another home. Fingers crossed it turns out alright :)

yea it is! they have already seen him, but it's hard to get everyone on board to appreciate chickens and their beauty! they won't want to hear that crowing early in the morning. I am going to wait as long as I can!!
Thank you!

it's odd how they just develop over time and not born with them. It's like a person developing a toe later in life! haha! I wonder if I should find him a home now instead of later when we are more attached to him!

I think that Is a good idea! :(

Oh I would already hate to give mine away. Searching for somewhere where they'll keep him alive would be a good idea. Could take a while. :/. It is very strange, i guess you could just think of them like toenails. The bumps for them are there.
