3-Week Old Chicks

Tomorrow will be 69 degrees here in Arkansas. Can I bring my 3-week old chicks outside for a while? They are getting stir crazy!

Of course! If they had a broody mama, she'd have them outside by day 4 or 5 no matter the weather. Of course, they could just duck back under her if they get too cold, but still... by 3 weeks of age, she'd have trouble keeping them corralled. They will love it!

You could take them out even if it were much cooler. Just watch them and see if they start to act cold. You may be surprised at how long it takes to get them cold at 69 F.

The first time you bring them out is always funny, it's like they're in the Land of the Lost.

What a job! They loved it. Loved taking a dust bath. BUT, trying to get them back into the house took 45 minutes of chasing and coaxing! I've had it for the day

Glad I came upon this thread. My 3-week old chicks, despite being put up in a 3-bedroom apartment/brooder that my son and i created, they have been flapping their wings, getting out of the boxes and pecking around the rug, doing what chickens do. Wednesday we plan to get our new chicken run up, and putting hardware cloth around the coop & run and getting them out ASAP. We're in MD, pretty warm weather, and have some heaters for them if needed. Plus, they love their trips outdoors and I hate to bring them inside after having such fun in our backyard.

I put mine out for good at 4 weeks. Had a heater but doubt they used it. They did fine and today they are 6 weeks old and loving it!
