I have a couple of chickens I would like to cull from my flock as they have quit laying eggs. One is a Rhode Island Red and the other is a 2 year old Barred Rock...both are sluggish, but otherwise healthy and eating right....can you use these hens for meat? Stewing? Any processing information that can be passed along?

sure they will make great stewing/crockpot hens with lots of flavor. Not much meat, but you will be glad you used the whole bird.

Thank you for the information. I'm planning to get some more chicks..hopefully all one of the same breed....Easter Eggers!
 
They will make very good soup. Boil 3-4 hours ,debone and then make chicken rice soup. It is fit for a king.
