Doctors have become complacent and I think are jaded from dealing with insurance companies, why he let you leave without doing an EKG (sp?) is completely irresponsible!!!

My mom has been doing the lower cholesterol thing I will ask her what they told her to eat

I have learned the hard way that we are our on advocates and that we must sometimes fight to be heard when it comes to our health.

I am glad you are on the road to recovery

Gretchen I am so glad you are ok!!!!! Please take care of yourself

I went through the same thing when I was 37.(2 years ago)
It came on suddenly. Chest pain, tightness, nausea, dizziness, weakness and then sweating. When it got to sweating I told my then housemate to drive me to the ER. Lesson learned. Call 911 ALWAYS. They dont take you as serious if you have someone drive you in. Sirens blaring is the way to make that trip.

I was told by the ER nurse that I "couldnt be having a heart attack since I was a 37 year old white woman"
Yeah a 37 year old white woman with HBP, a heart defect and a paternal side family history of heart attacks and strokes before the age of 50. Which I told them in the ER

The got me a cubicle in the ER and sent doctors in that then told me I had indigestion. So they gave me a antacid. After that didnt stop the discomfort and such they came back in and gave me a strong sedative telling me I was having a panic attack and they sent me home.
No blood was ever taken and the EKG results were non existent on the files from that day.(found this out from my cardiologist)
I called my cardiologist in Boston the next day and saw him immediately.
Luckily no damage was done. But now they have me coming back every two years(going soon) for a check on the pulmonary artery issue. Oh. And I had to promise him that if it ever happened again I would demand to be taken to Boston and to HIM. IMMEDIATELY. No more crap poor ER and doctors here. And my daughter also has a cardiologist since they think she has the same issue with her heart.

BTW My cholesterol is fine. Had just gotten the results from that back the week before. I was taking my meds for the HBP, which according to my PCP was normal. Just because the levels are "normal" and you are taking meds doesnt mean you are safe.
I had two friends loose their dads to heart attacks in their mid 40s.
Both were very active and healthy men. One dropped in the town center while doing his morning jogging route. The other had one behind the wheel of his pick up truck while he was sanding a parking lot. The one driving had been feeling tired and lethargic and thought he just had a cold. He had mentioned it to his wife that he didnt feel "right" and was "tired a lot" Seems he had been feeling that way for over a week before he had a massive attack. And this was a guy that ate only home cooked foods and was also a lobsterman. Very hard and active job.

On the 6th I woke up at 5 am with pain in between my shoulder blades in the middle of my back. By 9 am my mom took me to a walk in--he told me I'm too young to have heart problems and sent me home with a muscle relaxer, said I was having a muscle spasm.

That was What they told my Aunt's hasband, sent him home and he died on their front porch stoop as he entered his house. If they would have taken his blood and ran a simple test he would have been alive.
Please go back to the place you first went and tell that Dr what happened, so they never send away another patient, that may be "to young to have heart problems"
When I was in high school a 9th grader dropped dead running around the tennis court before gym class, he had a heart problem, no one knew about.
I'm glad you are doing better, and glad you posted your symptoms, so us Women especially, will take note and listen to our body. Most woman are turned away and their symptoms dismissed more because of being a woman, then our age!
Please take care and keep listing to your body.
I will make a check-up with my Dr just to be sure, I have been having some chest pains, and pain in my arm, and some flu like symptoms. Better to be safe then sorry!
My neighbor had a Quad. by pass and she was around your age. She is doing good, That was 2 yrs ago!
