Gretchen I am so glad you are ok!!!!! Please take care of yourself
I went through the same thing when I was 37.(2 years ago)
It came on suddenly. Chest pain, tightness, nausea, dizziness, weakness and then sweating. When it got to sweating I told my then housemate to drive me to the ER. Lesson learned. Call 911 ALWAYS. They dont take you as serious if you have someone drive you in. Sirens blaring is the way to make that trip.
I was told by the ER nurse that I "couldnt be having a heart attack since I was a 37 year old white woman"
Yeah a 37 year old white woman with HBP, a heart defect and a paternal side family history of heart attacks and strokes before the age of 50. Which I told them in the ER
The got me a cubicle in the ER and sent doctors in that then told me I had indigestion. So they gave me a antacid. After that didnt stop the discomfort and such they came back in and gave me a strong sedative telling me I was having a panic attack and they sent me home.
No blood was ever taken and the EKG results were non existent on the files from that day.(found this out from my cardiologist)
I called my cardiologist in Boston the next day and saw him immediately.
Luckily no damage was done. But now they have me coming back every two years(going soon) for a check on the pulmonary artery issue. Oh. And I had to promise him that if it ever happened again I would demand to be taken to Boston and to HIM. IMMEDIATELY. No more crap poor ER and doctors here. And my daughter also has a cardiologist since they think she has the same issue with her heart.
BTW My cholesterol is fine. Had just gotten the results from that back the week before. I was taking my meds for the HBP, which according to my PCP was normal. Just because the levels are "normal" and you are taking meds doesnt mean you are safe.
I had two friends loose their dads to heart attacks in their mid 40s.
Both were very active and healthy men. One dropped in the town center while doing his morning jogging route. The other had one behind the wheel of his pick up truck while he was sanding a parking lot. The one driving had been feeling tired and lethargic and thought he just had a cold. He had mentioned it to his wife that he didnt feel "right" and was "tired a lot" Seems he had been feeling that way for over a week before he had a massive attack. And this was a guy that ate only home cooked foods and was also a lobsterman. Very hard and active job.
