I am new to bird raising and I bought our first ducks 2 weeks ago, 6 Muscovy. It's looking more and more like I will be forced to clip their wings. How depressing. Imagine being born with the ability to fly, only to have your wings clipped. Sure, some of them will end up at the table, but up until then, they would have had a happy life of relative freedom. My ducks are about 4 months old now, so I will think about this for a couple more weeks.
I own only 5 acres, so I figure these ducks will eventually check out the neighborhood, thus create a problem. Some of my close neighbors are good country folks and might even enjoy their visits, but some or sue happy jerks that would likely become a serious pain. If I had life to do over again, I would have bought at least 100 acres, bordering a National Park, building my house at the Parks property line. LOL Strange, when we bought this place 25 years ago, we had very few neighbors. Now there are homes up here that have a million dollars invested in just their basements... how times do change.
I seriously hate having to clip the wings on my birds.....
