3rd Annual New Year's Day Hatch!!

She's been breeding some beautiful birds.

She and Laree call them Alohas, I call them Phoenix Flower Hens.

Sounds like you should have sent AC over there to rescue their dog.

They sound like idiots, and that's the nicest thing I can say.

If I had the spare cash I'd send you the money for a pair of Cane Corsos.

Fine me some there and send them. Gotta be better than what they've decided to breed here.

I have a few descriptive words for them, but like I've mentioned before. I have 20 points on me right now and now ruffling any feathers to get kicked off the site. OMG! The thought actually freaked me out a bit. It's times like tonight I wish I drank.

mahonri, lol. i love both names, and am very excited to be hatching these. my daughter has been thinking up names for days...
where are some really good places around here for feed and other chicken related supplies? i go to mesa feed because its all i know, but i think its kinda small. (compared to what i was used to in kansas)

wolftracks, i dont think you really have to worry until you start dreaming that you are sitting on eggs yourself. thats when i am gonna worry...

OK, I'm all caught up and now I have to get ready to head to the airport. I'll be flying for about 12 hours or so and won't get to check back on you all until sometime after that.

DH collected a few more eggs tonight, so we have 22 ready to go under our two broody hens. I hope they take to the eggs, but I'm leaving him instructions to move them to the bator should one of the girls flake-out. I'm a little sad that I won't be here to watch the girls do their job but I'm not worried in the least, DH is very attentive and will be an eggsellent supervisor in my absence.

My traveling companions should be here soon so I'm signing off. Have a great Saturday and I hope all the eggs still en route get where they are going in time

Close! I guess I should really worry now. I was carrying them with me while shopping and people were pointing at me. I walked by a mirror and I had egg shapes all over my body and was trying not to lose the ones that kept popping out of my socks. Does that count?

safe travels ak michelle.
lol wolftracks, i thought i was bad candling eggs today talking to them - then i find out thats pretty normal.

i'm off to bed, i'm sure the kids will be waking me up early.

The current group of chicks/pullets are doing well. I put the older ones together with my EEs and my blue marans hen. Pistol, the EE roo is delighted to have such a beautiful flock. Most are EE and/or BR crosses, but I got some really gorgeous birds. I have at least 4 BLUE pullets, 1 LAVENDER

pullet, a golden and barred pullet, and a bunch of mixed color barred birds. A few young roos ended up pure BR.

I have one small (5 chick) group that I can't place the color. One of the chicks I think is a roo, but he's white with black splashes. Really striking. Don't know where those genes came from.

Most of the boys will go to freezer camp, but a few (like the white splash cockerel) will stay. My starting hens are going through molt and I'm seeing maybe 1-2 eggs from them every few days. My young Barnvelders lay maybe 3 times a week, so I'm busy feeding birds without many eggs.

This hatch will increase my Barnevelders and hopefully add to the layers so I actually have eggs next winter.

Sigh.
